Eucalyptus isn’t just for instagram
Has your instagram feed been full of people showing off their plant laden bathrooms and showers lately? Well if they have, there’s a good reason for it.
Hanging Eucalyptus from your shower head might seem like a new insta-trend but actually it’s a lot more than that. Used for years and years in some cultures for health and then eventually by spa’s, this is one fad that you don’t want to miss out on.
Eucalyptus has anti-inflammatory properties, this means that if you are feeling rundown, stuffy, blocked up, congested with a cold or have a banging sinus headache then these little green steams will be exactly what your body needs.
Eucalyptus will decongest and calm your respiratory system as well as unblock your airways and sinuses. As soon as the heat and steam from your shower mixes with the eucalyptus, the beautiful fragrance will hit the air and will turn your bathroom into a pretty fancy and extremely soothing steam room.
So how do you do it? Well you can buy stalks and steams of eucalyptus in nearly every flower shop as it’s always really popular but if your not near a florist, nip into your local supermarket and pick up a bunch of flowers that has a few eucalyptus stalks in it for decoration, leave the rest of the flowers to look pretty in a vase or gift them to someone who needs a pick me up and take the stems for your shower.
Take your eucalyptus and tie the bottom of the stalks together with some string or even a hair band, it needs to be something water proof. Then as near to your shower wall as you can get it hang the stems upside down. We use an elastic band or some string to tie the ends of the eucalyptus to the shower system and leave it to hang.
You want as little water to touch the eucalyptus as possible as this will encourage it to go mouldy and no one wants that.
You should be able to leave your eucalyptus hanging for about a week.
So the next time your feeling a cold hitting you or you need a break from you sinus congestion, hit up the eucalyptus shower!
