We love documentaries but we especially love the ones that make us think either about ourselves, the people around us or the world itself.  We thought it would be fun to share some of our favourite documentaries that have really changed our perspective on life after we watched them. Have a look below to find some inspiring films.

1.  Given - Trailer
Given is a documentary that follows the Goodwin family for around 6 months as they travel all over the world.  The film is narrated by Given, the most adorable little boy who is around 4 or 5 in the film.  We see his family, this trip and the world through his eyes.  You get to experience birth, death, adventure, fear and everything in between though his view and its honestly one of the most inspiring things we have watched in a really, really long time.
There is a calmness to this movie that just sweeps over you as you watch it, something about the breath taking cinematography and Givens honesty about the world and what he is seeing, really makes this such a special watch.
If your looking for a slow and peaceful film to help you fall in love with this wonderful world we live in a little bit more, then please take a watch of this.
You can read more about the family and the movie HERE or watch it on Netflix.

2.  What The Health- Trailer
This is a documentary about the food, pharmaceutical and health industry.  The film follows  Kip Andersen learning about what really is in our food and what goes on behind the scenes to encourage us to be eating certain things.
To say this film is a hard watch is an understatement.  We have watched so many documentaries on this subject matter and this one is by far the best and most insightful.
Everything was said and explained in a very easy to understand, matter of fact way and I think that's why it seemed so urgent and dramatic of a problem that we are all facing and I think this film just brought it home to us that its not good enough anymore that we settle for being treated like this by these companies.
It  is just so upsetting how so many people treat our health like business in this world.  We think this film should be a must watch for everyone and anyone.
You can watch it on Netflix now.

3.  Innsaei- Trailer
This documentary is all about the power of intuition, basically your gut feeling.
We loved every second of watching Hrund Gunnsteinsdottir and Kristín Ólafsdóttir go on their journey to learning about intuition.  They speak with some of the most inspiring people in the world who are leaders in this sector, scientists, doctors and just really darn wise people.
The film takes you around the world to view different thoughts on the subject and it all has such a powerful message.

“Innsæi in Iceland has multiple meanings. It can mean “the sea within” which is the borderless nature of our inner world, a constantly moving world of vision, feelings and imagination beyond words. It can mean “to see within” which means to know yourself, and to know yourself well enough to be able to put yourself in other people’s shoes. And it can mean “to see from the inside out” which is to have a strong inner compass to navigate your way in our ever-changing world."
You can watch the film on Netflix now.

4.  American Teen - Trailer
This really is the real life Breakfast Club.  It follows the last year of high school for a group of teenagers in Indiana.  There is the jock, the geek, the princess, you get the idea, right?
This is such an insightful look into real life for so many teenagers in high school but especially in America, it really broke the illusion of the traditional Hollywood created version, of the American high school experience. This documentary deals very sensitively with problems that teenagers are facing like bullying, mental health and growing up.   It's such an interesting look at such  a universal experience.  You can buy it on Amazon

5.  My Kid Could Paint That - Trailer
This film tells the story of Marla, a young girl from New York who creates these beautiful abstract paintings.  The director decided to make the movie to try and get to the bottom of whether Marla is the original artist of her work or if it's all just a big art scam by her parents.  It's so intriguing and its one of those films that you will want to recommend to everyone after you've watched it as you will  have so many questions and will want to talk about it to everyone.
You can watch it on Amazon

6. Darling Magazine #Selfie - Episodes
This one is a little different.  The wonderful Darling Magazine have made a documentary series of short videos on their YouTube channel which will all be combined into a feature-length documentary which will premiere in 2018.  The theme of the series is finding your self-esteem in a retouched world.  Each mini video features a handful of people discussing certain topics, like retouching, reality and perspective. Each video is such a beautiful and insightful watch.  The production on each episode is stunning and the honesty from the people interviewed is so refreshing.  This series really does make you think about the world that we live in and makes you take a moment to step back and evaluate how you feel about yourself and your image.  We can not wait to see the full version of the documentary next year.
